Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item are improved through upgrading it, which is also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment provides an increase in the linearity of any stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

Each glyph has a range of values that it can enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This isn't the exact amount at the glyph can increase a stat, but the maximum amount it is able to do so. The value of the glyph depends on the tier as well as the quality of the item you are admiring.

The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If, however, you have an unusable rune or glyph that has not yet been applied to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create the new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

Leveling

There are a number of ways to boost the value of an upgrade for an item. The first way to level up an upgrade for an item is to increase the amount of upgrade.
