The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is a return to a classic sextet structure, and a more consistent, stronger album with a sharper edge. Its edgier sound reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved virtuosity on drums, and an improved, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard playing was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live performance that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released their new studio album just a few months after, and went on a tour around the world to support it. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded prior to. It was released as a double-album titled Then & Now in 2001. It was the first album in the history of the band not to include any single song that had the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
