Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon Brothers

Zeus, lord of the skies, is a gregarious and paternal god with an enormous over-inflated self-esteem. He is clever and brilliant and has a tremendous leadership power.

He also has command over the sea as well as earthquakes, metals, and the sky. He also oversees the ocean, earthquakes and metals. His brother Hades oversees the underworld.

How did they become Gods?

The Greeks developed a vast mythology that was a blend of early Greek culture and pre-Greek Mediterranean belief systems, as well as other cultures that they intermarried with as they conquered their lands. He is frequently joined by Cerberus, the three-headed dog who guards his territory. He wears the Helm of Darkness and wields the bident (which is similar to the tridents of Poseidon).

Ancient Greeks believed that the underworld was more of a spiritual realm rather than an actual hell. Hades was responsible for watching over the souls and lives of mortal men, women and children who had died. He is also tasked with creating life, and providing rain to those who require it.

How do they interact?

Each of these brothers controlled vast territories that were greater than anything any other god could do. They were smart and clever leaders who were extremely proud in their power. They were also jealous.

Zeus was jealous of his brother's affection for Hera. He wanted her for himself. To get her, he kidnapped her and took her to the Underworld. In the Underworld, he forced her to drink his potion. This made her Hebe. Hebe and she was unable to return to Demeter until she had another child. This led to Persephone spending two-thirds of her time with Demeter and the other third with Hades. It also created the growing seasons.

During her time with Demeter she began to ignore her duties as the goddess of fertility. Hades was angry. He decided to get her back. He tricked her by transforming himself into a disheveled cuckoo. As he knew she was a fan of animals, he placed her bird close to her chest and she fell in love with him. He then returned to the original form and married her.

After the wedding, Hades was a loving husband and father to their three children. He was anxious about his place on Mount Olympus. He wanted to be the center for the change. He proposed to the other gods that he raise hell to the earth. After many days of debate they finally came to an agreement.

While Hestia is a goddess of peace, her job is to keep the other Olympians in control. She is also the patron goddess of marriage and takes particular care of married women. She was a very religious woman, however she had some flings with her brother's husband Zeus. She had children with nymphs and mortals including Triton, Theseus, Orion and Pegasus.
