The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A high-quality robot vacuum can make a huge difference in controlling allergens like dust and pet hair. Not all models are the same.

If you're looking for an animal-friendly vacuum or just a great robot to complement your existing cleaner, there are plenty of choices.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy's budget-friendly line of robotic vacuum cleaners, is the most current model. It's a sleek black design with blue and rose-gold accents that looks like a smartphone. It's easier to use than previous models and offers features such as BoostIQ that automatically boosts suction power for better cleaning of all surfaces. Smart navigation is used to avoid the repetition of the same area, which is common when using bounce-navigation.

It does a great job of removing pet hair and crumbs off hard floors, but it is behind the best robot vacuum for thick carpet and pet hair models when it comes to collecting dust from carpet. In our tests, it failed to pick up 74% of the dust on hard floors and 26% on carpet.

One feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is the ability to map your home with a digital map in the app. This allows it to remember which rooms it has cleaned before and prevents it from returning to those rooms, a major frustration with simpler robots that require the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to delineate no-go zones.

The G30 Edge also has other conveniences. It comes with an "Find My Robot" mode that blasts out loud music until it is found and a directional keyboard that lets you manually move the robot. It has an automatic vacuum for pet hair return feature that can send the robot back to its charging station when the battery is at a low level. This is a safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape is an extremely capable robot that comes with a number of intelligent features. It can clean bare floors efficiently and climb up carpets with high piles with ease. The app also comes with advanced features such as boundary lines remote control access while the robot is operating and a range of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of robots from Neato and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when seen from above. The design offers a number of advantages such as improved corner cleaning and a bigger dust bin than the majority of models. The D-shape lets the robot to reach under furniture more easily than models with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before beginning a cleaning process to use spinning infrared to look over and evaluate the area. Then it will begin to work in a grid, gradually moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is covered. This method of cleaning is much more efficient and thorough than the random approach taken by certain competitors.

The d-shape design also permits the D-Shape to have a large dust bin that is 700ml as opposed to 400 to 600ml for similarly priced robots. The Roomba EVO i3+ is a fantastic option for pet owners. It does well on hard floors and does a great job of removing particles like cereal, rice, and hair of pets. It has some issues on carpets, but it's superior to other robots in this price range. The Roomba EVO is also very adept at navigating between various floor types. It doesn't get stuck in transitions like the older models. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes flex to adapt to different flooring types and resist the tangles in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has weaker obstacle-avoiding capability than the other robots that we tested. It repeatedly encountered objects such as pet toys, handbags, and even shoes before continuing its course. It also had trouble with coarse kosher sea salt, which it blew around instead of taking it up.

The i3+ EVO is packed with features that make it well worth the extra money over other Roomba models. It has a self-emptying bin and advanced control via an app. You can schedule cleanings, set custom routines, and even create zones that don't want the robot to access. Its intelligent scheduling can even suggest additional cleanings during allergy seasons and according to the routine you follow. Its navigation system is unreliable however, and it sometimes vacuums in irregular lines such as zigzags or diagonals instead of parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

This intelligent robot is able to visualize your home's interior, better than you. It comes with two brushes that adjust to different types of floors and are able to avoid tangling. This makes it the perfect option for homes with pets. You can use the app to control the robot or use it with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The dock, named Omni, automates tasks like filling and cleaning the robot's water tank, emptying the debris bin as well as charging and drying mop pads.

It's a great value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL offers many advanced features, such as self-emptying bins and mapping which can hold a large amount of trash. 5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and Wet

It's difficult to find a robot that combines mopping and vacuuming, but this one does exactly that. The two-tank system used by this robot allows it to mop or vacuum at the touch of one button. In our tests it was able easily switch between different surfaces and was great at cleaning pet fur from carpets and hardwood floors. It also has an edge-sweeping tool to remove hair from baseboards and walls.

This robot is a great option if you're seeking a model that is affordable and has some extra features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our testing and can be controlled by an app or voice. It even supports scheduled cleanings and has a large dustbin to capture the mess before it gets full. The only issue is that it can take up to 166 minutes to complete its work however, it's still faster than other robots we've evaluated.

The highlight of this robot is its front-facing camera, which lets you monitor your home's cleanliness on an interactive map within the app. This is particularly useful in the event that you need to locate a particular object, or if your kids have spilled glitter from your holiday decor all over your floor. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to heavily soiled areas. It has a dustbin that automatically emptys, and the battery lasts for around 60 minutes. The more expensive iRobot J7 comes with an sophisticated set of features and is better on all surfaces. It is also more robust, has a larger dustbin, charges quicker and is able to navigate obstacles such as electrical cords better.
