Saab Key Programming

Saab cars built since 1994 use an immobilizer system that is based on key codes. In order to add a second key, it requires a new transponder and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

The problem is that it can be very expensive. This is the reason why you should always have a spare key at hand.

Transponder key

The transponder is a key that is equipped with an electronic chip. The chip transmits a signal when the key is put in the ignition. The car then examines the signal to determine whether it matches the one on the key. If the signals match the car will then unlock itself and begin. This is a great method to protect your car from theft.

Transponder keys could be a popular addition to cars, programmers but they are not as secure as traditional metal keys. While the metal component of a traditional key may be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip. This chip contains an unique code that is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
