3 Wheel Double Buggy

Claire, our tester, was impressed by the packaging. It was easy to open and clean. She found it to be among the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to set up. She took it for a spin around some tough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel stroller with car seat wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accommodate a second seat or carrycot with adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). Certain models let you add an extra board to older children who are ready to walk, but require a little help.

For a light-weight option that's great for urban streets, look into the Joie Evalite Duo. It's a breeze to move and comes with a large basket that has plenty of storage space. It can accommodate twins from birth and will accept two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats have to face toward the forward direction and there isn't space for an item under the seat. You will need an additional side bag.

Mountain Buggy Duet will be the best choice If you like off-road driving. It's a side-by- side with the most compact footprint of any double buggy available. It's easier to maneuver through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and up kerbs. It also has a handbrake on the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most popular on the market. This is due to their outstanding comfort. It's a true all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension that makes light work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and comes with a built-in ride-on board for older kids who prefer to walk, plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat for better visibility.

Alternately, the phil&teds dots is a great single buggy that is available from day one that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3 wheel running buggy!) Different configurations are possible. This is especially helpful if you have a baby in a car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie, which permits the best lie-flat position. Also, car seat adapters that can be used with various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children can push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump in the road, especially when it's on rough terrain such as grass or paths that aren't paved. Some models also have locking front wheels to help with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Some models have tyres with air filled which are ideal for all-terrain riding, however they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you have an extra set of tyres in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, designed to take the bumps and can be less prone to punctures however, you may feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back when you choose to jog.

"It was able to effortlessly navigate grass and bumpy sidewalks cobbles, dirt, and tracks and was easy for me to maneuver around corners and climb up and down kerbs." Folding

A 3 wheel double buggy can fold up very neatly to store it. There are models that fold flat, stand up (as though they were in the shape of a pushchair) and also pop out to reveal a more umbrella-style folding with an operated break. In general the more wheels a buggy has the more able it will be to navigate on rough terrain. This is especially true if your wheels are larger than typical size. You will have more stability and it's less likely that you need to flip or tip your child.

Another option is the phil&teds sport which is future-proof since it's great as a single buggy right from the start and then adjusts to accommodate 2 (or even 3!) All of this is incorporated into its compact footprint. It has a clever three-wheel design with a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.
